Welcome to Collector's Art
Pink Roses

Welcome to my website on the art of printmaking. I work mainly in linocut although I have used other media such as etching. Here illustrated is a picture of my latest work, "Pink Roses". A further selection of my prints may be seen in the gallery section, or to order online.

Linocut

Linocut was developed in the 20th.C as an extension of the much older woodcut technique, and whilst in the main the tools used for both techniques remain the same, linocut has subtle distinct qualities of its own that distinguishes from the earlier woodcut style.

Lino is relatively soft and friable without grain and presents a true and even working surface, and for multicolour printmaking offers a distinct advantage in the production of large-scale prints boldy conceived in masses of bright, flat colour combined with a strong graphical design.

Much used for teaching in schools, lino has become familiar to most of us a simple "black and white" print medium, however it is in fact capable of producing a much greater range of images than this simple introduction might suggest and as such has been used in the past to great effect by a whole variety of artists as diverse as Picasso, Matisse and Kandinsky.
